7 Interview Techniques for Success

Interview looming?

Follow these simple techniques to prepare for your upcoming meet and greet. Remember, preparation is your best defense!

  • Research Your Salon/Treatments/Products on offer so you can easily discuss this with the manager
  • Have your availability of hours ready written down, be flexible (sometimes you have to put the hard yards in for a while to be able to negotiate ideal hours later on)
  • Know a little bit of history of the salon – what are they known for? Do they have a loyal following of skin junkies?
  • Have a few ‘stories’ up your sleeve about a difficult customer/your passion/how you will contribute as a team player
  • Pause and think about your answers – trust me the pause gives you time to compose yourself!
  • They may ask you – what is your strength and what is your weakness? – try and turn this into a positive eg: say ‘I may have to work on my timing due to the fact that I am such a perfectionist with eyebrows – however I believe that will come with practice and time’
  • Have an explanation ready for why you want to work for their company eg: you love the philosophy of the salon, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, looking forward to working with xxx product, love being part of a great team
  • Indicate that you are forward thinking and take constructive criticism on board/love personal development and future training
  • If they ask you if you have any questions – a good one is ‘Do you provide ongoing training for Professional Development?’
